Previously, Coleman was Vice President and Director of Broadcast Operations at WBAL-TV, the Hearst-Argyle station in Baltimore, Maryland. While there, he was the executive in charge of production of several nationally syndicated specials including By River By Rail, 'Til Earth and Heaven Ring, The Remarkable Journey, and Martin Luther King, The March To Freedom. Prior to joining WBAL, he produced several international television projects in Brazil, China, Australia, India and throughout Europe. Coleman began his career as a writer and filmmaker. Later he worked at WBZ-TV, Boston, and at WJZ-TV, Baltimore, where he was Executive Producer of local programming. Coleman has been honored with national and regional awards from organizations including the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), the National Association of Television Program Executives, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the National Association of Black Journalists. He serves on the NAB's Committee on Local Television Audience Measurement and on the Board of NBC Enterprises. Coleman is a graduate of Brown University and the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg School for Communication. Hearst-Argyle Television, Inc. owns 24 television stations, and manages an additional three television and two radio stations, in geographically diverse U.S. markets. The Company's television stations reach about 17.5% of U.S. TV households, making it one of the two largest U.S. television station groups not primarily aligned with a single network, as well as one of the seven largest television groups overall as measured by audience delivered. The Company owns 10 NBC affiliates, making it the second-largest NBC affiliate owner. Hearst-Argyle also owns 11 ABC affiliated stations, and manages an additional 12th ABC station owned by The Hearst Corporation, making it the largest ABC affiliate group. The Company also owns two CBS affiliates and a WB affiliate, and manages a UPN affiliate and an independent station. Hearst-Argyle also is involved in television production and syndication, through a joint venture with NBC Enterprises, and is a leader in the convergence of local broadcast television and the Internet through its partnership with Internet Broadcasting Systems. Emerson Coleman is Vice President, Programming of Hearst-Argyle Television, Inc., based at the Company's New York City corporate office. In this position, which he has held since April 1999, he oversees the Company's syndicated program acquisitions and its programming partnership with NBC, among other activities.
