The Student Career Workshops are held in mid-size and major markets with diverse student populations. Students from schools in the surrounding areas are invited to attend the half-day workshops free of charge. The goal of the workshops is to inform the students of the many areas available in the communications field and to prepare and guide them through the process of applying for a job. Panelists discuss their careers and what it took to get the jobs they have, not only as industry professionals but also as role models for the next generation of television and content leaders. The panelists are themselves a diverse group, with backgrounds that include a broad range of jobs, experience levels and cultures.

The half-day career events begin with a continental breakfast for the students and are followed by presentations from each of the speakers. The panelists each speak for ten minutes about their career path and strategy. Topics addressed during the presentations include preparing resumes, interviewing successfully, networking and developing a career strategy. The panel discussions are followed by a general Q&A session and then by a light lunch where students have the opportunity to interact with the speakers face to face. Past workshops have attracted between 100 and 200 college students.
